In the late 19th century, Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria did not come to conquer, but to understand. He explored the island with open eyes and a curious heart, documenting its culture, nature, and people with respect and wonder. He preferred simplicity over the spectacular, built estates in harmony with the land, and laid the foundation for what we now call authentic island life.
